Only few people know that the village of Omar in the Luka Krmpotska area, which administratively belongs to the town of Novi Vinodolski, hosts a very rare monument of architectural and sacred heritage - the glass Chapel of the Holy Cross, which will soon be completely renewed and opened to the visitors.
The glass chapel with large water well and a residential building represents a very valuable example of a well-preserved architectural heritage of the local region. A distinctive feature of this site is the glass chapel, which is a unique example of this type of sacred building and one of the very few of its kind in the world and KVARNER Cache 23 is located very close to it.
The chapel consists of a metal construction with façade and roof made of glass. It is assumed that it was built at the beginning of the 20th century by the owner of this estate –Petar Krpan-Samac. Since the chapel was frequently used at that time, a functional water well was added next to it. The well was made of stone, it was circular in shape, and it was fenced off with a dry-stone wall.
The first stage of renewing this property, which does not include the renewal of the residential building, should start this June. Although the chapel will not be completely renewed until September, being an important part of the local heritage it will be made available to the public before that. The chapel is located in the karst area in the hinterland of Novi Vinodolski, which is a popular area for activity holidays with a network of hiking and cycling trails and numerous vantage points.
