Second up to bat......the State of Alaska.

Did you know that……?
Alaska's state nickname is the The Last Frontier & Land of the Midnight Sun. Alaska's name is based on the Eskimo word Alakshak, meaning great lands or peninsula.

Alaska was purchased from Russia in 1867, for under 2 cents an acre.
Alaska is larger than the combined area of Texas, California and Montana. It is even larger than 23 smallest U.S. states and districts, combined together.
The capital of Alaska is Juneau, the only capital city in the United States that is accessible by boat or plane only. The state's largest city is Anchorage, while the second largest is Fairbanks.
There are some areas in Alaska that have 24 hours daylight and some that have 24 hours night.
Alaska's most important revenue source is the oil and natural gas industry. It accounts for 25% of the oil produced in the United States.
Dog mushing is the official state sport of Alaska. The Alaskan malamute sled dog is strong and heavily coated. It was developed as a breed by a group of Eskimos named the Malemiuts.
The interior of Alaska has over 50,000 glaciers, 3,000 rivers and three million lakes.
Alaska has the lowest individual tax burden in the United States and is one among the only five states with no state sales tax and one of seven states that do not levy an individual income tax.

The flag of Alaska consists of a dark blue base with the constellation Ursa Major on the left side and the North Star, Polaris, on the flag's upper right side. The stars are in gold.
The blue base symbolizes the sky, sea, mountain lakes and Alaska's wildflowers. The state flower is the blue Forget-Me-Not. The gold color of the stars represents the mineral wealth of Alaska. The constellation Ursa Major, also known as the Great Bear, represents Alaska's strength. The constellation is important because it points to Polaris, also known as the North Star, which is the brightest star in the northern sky. The star used to be very helpful and important for navigational purposes. The North Star also signifies Alaska as the northern most state in the U.S.
The flag was adopted on May 2, 1927. Alaska is the 49th state of the union, gaining statehood on Jan. 3, 1959.
The flag was created by 13 year-old Bennie Benson as part of a flag contest in 1926.
