Geocache Description:

This cache is found in an undeveloped shoreline area across University Avenue from McLaughlin Eastshore State Park that provides lovely views of the the bay and the Bay Bridge.

The cache is another of my "wild bird" cache series--each of which is named after a species commonly found near GZ.

This particular cache is dedicated to the American Coot--a common species of waterfowl found throughout North America's shorelines, lakes and wetlands.

With their distinctive black bodies and heads--highlighted by a white beak--groups of them are commonly seen swimming about and dabbling for food.  to most who spend any time near water, great blue herons are tall birds (often up to 4' tall), with stilt-like legs, a long, flexible neck and a long dagger-like beak.  The body plumage is a blue-gray color with black tips and the birds can often be slowly flying to their destination with large wings and their neck folded tightly into their body.

When taking flight, they use their oddly shaped feet to skitter across the surface of the water for long distances--often for fifty feet or more--before getting airborne.  Once they take flight, their small fast-beating wings carry them at surprisingly fast speeds.

This cache is a small cylindrical container with room for small trade items.  It is placed near the trail.  However, because this area does not see a lot of visitors, muggle activity should not be much of a probem.

As always, please replace the cache as found to keep it hidden.
