Il nome Trepalade deriva dalle tre palizzate di sbarramento erette all'interno del Sile, per costringere le barche ad accostare a riva, dove c'era l'edificio della dogana.
Sempre per il ruolo doganale che svolgeva, la località era designata anche con il termine la "Scrivania". La località, era infatti luogo di transito tra il dominio veneziano e la Marca trevigiana e rivestiva quindi anche un importante ruolo strategico.
Il borgo, sorto verso l' inizio del 1500, fu costruito vicino al punto in cui il canale Siloncello si unisce al Sile attraverso una conca detta "le portesine", tuttora esistente (sorta nel 1682), e attorno alla Granza, edificio che comprendeva la chiesa, intitolata a S. Magno (Vescovo nato ad Altino), la locanda, un magazzino-deposito, di proprietà dei monaci benedettini di S. Stefano del monastero di Altino. Il percorso del Siloncello era la via fluviale che permetteva l'accesso, in epoca medioevale, alle isole torcellane con piccoli natanti.
L'antica cappella curaziale di Trepalade è ora trasformata in abitazione privata ed è ravvisabile solo sul lato destro della casa, dove probabilmente c'era l'entrata principale.

The name Trepalade is derived from the three barrier fences erected within the Sile river, to force the boats to dock to the shore, where there was the customs building for access to the lagoon. Also for the role that customs held, the location was also designated by the term the "Desk". The locality was in fact a place of transit between the Venetian area and Treviso and had also an important strategic role. The village, built towards the beginning of 1500, was built near the point where the canal Siloncello joins the Sile river through a hollow called "the portesine", which still exists (built in 1682), and around the "Granza", building that included the church, dedicated to St. Magno ( Bishop born in Altino), a tavern, a warehouse-store, owned by the Benedictine monks of St. Stefano from the monastery of Altino. The canal Siloncello was the waterway that allowed to enter, during the Middle Ages, to the Torcello islands with small boats.
The old chapel is now converted into a private residence and is only lightly visible on the right side of the house, where probably there was the main entrance.
