Shakubetsu station was opened in 1920. The name is from Ainu word “Sappe”, that means “dried river”. It was also the starting station of Shakubetsu line, that was for transportation of the coal mined in Shakubetsu coal mine. However, in 1970, the mine was closed. There is the small house that was used for the movie made. The movie was HANAMIZUKI, that was released in 2010. Please bring your pen.
