Geocache Description:

This is an Earth Cache, There is no Cache Container at the Posted Coordinates"

In 2002, massive flood waters spilled Canyon Lake for the first time in its history. The damage was severe, but the result of this catastrophic natural disaster was the formation of a gorge. When the land ripped apart and washed away, what was left behind were exposed fault lines, the inner workings of an aquifer, and countless geological features and fossils (including dinosaur tracks) going back eons.
The Canyon Lake Gorge is truly a natural phenomenon, and a wonderful illustration of Central Texas geological history.

In order to claim this Earth cache as a "FIND" please send me an email with the answers to the following questions. (Do Not include them in your log)

1) When looking at the spillway, What would you estimate the depth of erosion (in feet) that was caused by the 2002 flood?
2) How old is the estimated age of the limestone found in the Texas Hill country and the Canyon Lake Gorge?
3) What, do you think, gives limestone the porosity and permeability to transmit ground water?
4) Apart from the limestone in the area – explain if you saw any of the other minerals in the gorge or surrounding cliff sides? (explain the colours and form).
5) Describe some of the interesting things and experiences you had on your trip to Canyon lake.
Optional 6) If you took the tour, please describe what you liked most, or found most interesting, about the tour?

There are a few other physical caches in this park so be sure to seek them out while you are here!

There is also a guided tour of the Gorge if you want to see it up close. Prior arrangements have to be made in order to do that. For more information on Tours, Please See "Related Web Page"
