This is a three stage multi-cache. The SPat tube with coordinates to the second stage can be found off the bike path to the left, the SPat tube with coordinates to the final can be found off the bike path to the right, and the final cache, a small lock 'n' lock, can be found off the path to the left once again.
What, I'm sure you are wondering, is a SPat tube? My brother and sister-in-law are cachers in Albuquerque, New Mexico, who cache under the handle SPat ABQ. My brother is a CNC Lathe Machinist, and he makes most of his own caches. He's well known in the area for SPat tubes--they are a little larger than the smaller bison tubes, and he makes them out of all different kinds of materials--he even has a series of caches that highlight Albuquerque manufacturing: among them stainless steel, brass, and Delrin.
I'll let Pat tell you about this material (taken from his cache pages):
Delrin, referred to chemically as PolyOxyMethylene, are semi-crystalline engineering thermoplastics made by polymerization of formaldehyde. They have physical properties that are not available with metals or most other plastics; high mechanical strength and rigidity, low coefficients of friction, low moisture absorption, excellent dimensional stability, fatigue endurance, and resistance to abrasion and creep. These materials are also resistant to a wide range of solvents and have good electrical properties, which make them good for electrical applications.
It was developed in the 1920s and has been called many brand names by manufacturers. Black Delrin is what M16s are made of. The idea of a plastic rifle was revolutionary at the time, and well, a large number of A1s are still in good condition today, so obviously it is durable.
One popular application for White Delrin is guitar picks. The stark white makes it great for adding imagery on the picks.
This cache is placed in Pat and Sarah's honor. I've had so much fun caching with them in New Mexico, and hope someday they will come here and cache with me in Ohio. Enjoy the SPat tubes--my brother makes them himself, and I think they're pretty cool!
FTF prize is an unactivated trackable.
