Approximately 7 miles in length, Eklutna Lake sits in a glacier-carved valley located about a 45 minute drive north of downtown Anchorage. While the Eklutna Water Treatment Facility has a capacity to provide up to 35 million gallons of treated water per day to the Anchorage community, the melt from the Eklutna Glacier and fresh water streams that feed into Eklutna Lake provides six times that amount!
The resulting lake serves as a great recreational spot for residents and tourists alike. This spot is particulary popular in the summer for hikers, campers, bikers, kayakers, boaters, fishers, four-wheelers, and equestrians. In the winter, this location turns into a snowshoe, cross country ski, and snow machine paradise!
With the extended cold and snow from last winter, coloReido was waiting for Eklutna Lake to melt. Finally on a warm, sunny Saturday afternoon in June, the kayaks were broken in for the season to help place this cache! Beware of the moose and bears that frequent this area, especially if you choose to attempt this cache by foot. If you go by kayak, don't forget your personal floatation device (aka life vest). Additionally, the mosquitos can be particularly fierce so repellant is highly recommended.
"Muggle Megan" had selected this spot for the placement of this cache. During your visit, it will become evident why Eklutna Lake is an outdoor enthusiast's dream!

Congratulations to ? ? ? for the FTF!
