Herforst gehörte bis um 1800 zur Herrschaft Seinsfeld im Herzogtum Luxemburg. Von 1770 bis 1800 war Herforst überwiegend Waldgebiet. Zudem befanden sich in der Nähe des Ortes mehrere umfangreiche Fischweiher, die später in Wiesen umgewandelt wurden.
Die Fischereigerechtigkeit übten die luxemburgische Herrschaft Seinsfeld und die Klosterherren von Himmerod aus. Um 1870 verdienten sich die Herforster ihr Geld mit Erzgraben. Eine besonders einträgliche Geldquelle waren auch die Steinhauerarbeiten. Der behauene Stein aus Herforst war bekannt und beliebt und wurde gerne für schöne Bauwerke bis weit die Mosel hinab bezogen.
Heute erstreckt sich Herforst über 3,75 qkm und hat uber 1.100 Einwohner.

Herforst belonged to Seinsfeld in the Duchy of Luxembourg until 1800. From 1770 to 1800 Herforst was predominantly forest area. Also were in the vicinity of the numerous large fish ponds, which were later filled in and converted into meadows.
The Seinsfeld and the monastery of Himmerod of fishing justice governed the for the Luxembourg government. By 1870, the Herforster earned their income with a very lucrative product of sculpture works. The carved stones from Herforst was known and loved far down the Moselle in with beautiful custom made carvings for buildings.
Today Herforst extends over 3.75 sq km and has over 1,100 inhabitants. This cache requires a log with photo!!!
