Geocache Description:

This cache is placed on Eugeniu Carada str. (Old Town area) and is a tribute to Carada and The National Bank of Romania.

Together with Ion C. Bratianu, Eugeniu Carada (1836 - 1910) was a key player in bringing into existence The National Bank of Romania (17 April 1880). As a main founder, he was elected director of the bank and never accepted the governor position. The first governor of the bank was Ion I. Câmpineanu.

From a historical perspective, The National Bank of Romania is the 16th central bank in the world.
In 1916, when Central Powers invaded Romania, all valuables of the bank together with the Romanian treasure were sent to Moscow for safekeeping. They were never returned.

The bank head office is on Lipscani Str. and is one of the most impressive and massive bank offices in Romania. Nowadays is a historical monument.

Please be careful when retrieving the cache: crowded area and the guards from the bank across the street. Only cache container, no pen.
