2003 to 2013 - Celebrating 10 Years of Camp N' Cache in Idaho!
Come & join us at the FS Flats Campground south of Twin Falls, Idaho. This is a great area for a variety of outdoor activities & relaxation if you desire.
Recreation abounds with miles of trails for hiking, ATV's, motor cycles, Mt. bikes & horses.
Clear out a patch of ground and call it yours. If you need a table, you might want to bring one as there are NO FACILITIES AT THE CAMP SPOT, although there is a campground about 1 mile away (Porcupine Springs) with a few tables & a pit toilet. This is a DRY CAMP so you will need to pack in everything you need for the weekend. This is also dispersed camping so there is no way to reserve a spot or guarantee that the location is not taken before we arrive. Every effort will be made to try and secure the area before the event. If you want to stay in the Porcupine Springs Campground it is a pay site and you will want to reserve a spot as soon as possible on the Forest Service Website.
This area has lots of endless roads and trails for your daily excursions and for those that have never been to the area you will not regret this trip.
There will be caches a short hike from the road for you to find and some that are right along the road.
Directions From Pine:
From the town of Hansen you will head south on 3800 East for 28 miles until you reach the end of the paved road, you will then drive 2.6 miles on FS 538 the FS Flats Campground.
The planned events will be as follows:
Friday June 7th:
Caching according to your equipment, individual plans and desires to earn IGO Bucks for the auction. Meet and Greet hour from 8:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at the Central Gathering Area. Come and meet your fellow geocachers and receive your CNC-10 packet for the IGO Bucks for the auction.
Saturday, June 8th:
Caching according to your equipment, individual plans and desires to earn IGO Bucks for the auction. No special function is planned, YOU ARE ON YOUR OWN FOR THE DAY. Only caches found Friday and Saturday will count for IGO Bucks and you are trusted to report correct information. Cache sheets MUST be turned into an Event Host by 4:00 PM on Saturday, so that your IGO Bucks earnings can be calculated.
A potluck dinner will be at the Central Gathering Area at 7:00 p.m. SHARP. Everyone is expected to supply one hot entrée or dessert for the potluck, PLEASE NO pasta, potato or cold salads, or chips and salsa. All Dutch Oven Dishes will be placed in the running for the “Dutch Oven Cook-Off“. There will be a special prize for the Dutch Oven dish deemed the "most delicious". Bring your best Dutch Oven dish. A secret judging method will be established to determine the best dish.
The auction will begin immediately after dinner. Please bring one camping/caching related item per geocaching name to donate to the auction event. Donations are required to participate in the IGO Auction and the IGO Bucks payout. Items at the past auctions have included: Dutch Ovens, Walking Sticks, backpacks, headlamps, compasses, Dutch Oven cookbooks, geocoins, Event T-shirts, etc..
***PLEASE ALSO bring one item to donate to the Community Cache as well.****
Special Note-IGO Bucks will be distributed according to a complex proprietary matrix of caches visited on Friday and Saturday. Caches found before Friday will need to be revisited in order to claim them for IGO Bucks. Score sheets will be handed out at the main campground on Friday night so it will be wise to keep track of caches hit on Friday before getting your score sheet. Also you are on Cacher's honor on recording your finds.
Sunday, June 9th:
Pack up and leave or stay longer if you desire.
Plan on bringing FRS radios to communicate with your party. The group will monitor channel 2 and 12 (no squelch codes) as usual.
Everyone should be prepared to encounter wildlife (deer, elk, bear, wolf, mountain lions & etc.), prepared for rapidly changing weather, and should have the basic safety gear to get themselves and their equipment in and out of the woods. You will also need appropriate chemicals, clothes and wilderness techniques to avoid mosquitoes and ticks.
This Event will take place regardless of weather. This is outside the control of the Event Hosts, so we will just make the best of it.
Please watch this page for important information and any changes that may occur before the event.
