Al inicio de la carretera a Salamanca, siguiendo la Ruta del Sureste del camino de Santiago, se encuentra este simbólico mirador, lugar de muchas postales de la ciudad de Ávila.
LOS CUATRO POSTES
A extramuros de la ciudad cerca del río Adaja y sobre un promontorio se ubican cuatro columnas dóricas de cinco metros de altura sobre cuyos capiteles se asientan otros tantos arquitrabes con las armas de la ciudad y con una cruz central de granito desde donde se divisa una soberbia panorámica de la ciudad de Ávila.
Este excelente mirador en sus orígenes, fue un humilladero del siglo XVI erigido como hito de romería a la ermita de San Leonardo (actualmente desaparecida), próxima a Narrillos, en rogativa por la desaparición de la peste que azotaba la comarca. Constituyen, junto con las murallas, uno de los puntos más emblemáticos de Ávila.
El monumento está íntimamente vinculado a la vida de Santa Teresa de Jesús pues hasta él llegó la santa en compañía de su hermano Rodrigo cuando tenían la intención de adentrarse en tierras de moros buscando el martirio. Allí donde encontró a sus sobrinos y el martirio se convirtió seguramente en un buen rapapolvo. Existe también una leyenda que narra que la misma Santa Teresa de Jesús volviendo cansada de uno de sus muchos viajes se sacudió las zapatillas del polvo del camino y allí dejó impresa su huella que según ojos muy listos todavía se ven visibles en una roca.
Un día de éstos nos encontremos caminando entorno a los cuatro postes, no sé si con deseos de martirio pero si con ganas de vivir aventuras y contar historias, pues este caballero jamás perderá la fe en su “fortaleza” y en su amada a las que ha tenido que abandonar para hacerse un hombre de alma virtuosa y espíritu puro.
EL CACHE
Es un contenedor pequeño que contiene inicialmente:
- Logbook (con lapicero)
- Funda móvil
- Pequeñas imágenes de los cuatro postes
- Canicas
Tened cuidado con “muggles” que paran a fotografiarse con el monumento sobre todo en períodos festivos.
ENGLISH VERSION
At the outskirts of the city near Adaja river and on a promontory, there are four Doric columns five feet above the capitals settle architraves with arms of the city and a central granite cross which overlooks a superb view of the city of Avila.
This excellent viewpoint in its origins, it was a sixteenth-century shrine erected as a landmark of pilgrimage to the hermitage of San Leonardo (now disappeared), next to Narrillos, in prayer for the extinction of the plague that was ravaging the region. They are, along with the walls, one of the most emblematic of Avila.
The monument is closely linked to the life of St. Teresa of Jesus, as even she came with his brother Rodrigo when they intended to go into Moorish lands seeking martyrdom. There his uncle found his nephews and martyrdom became a good earful surely. There is also a legend that tells that it St. Teresa of Jesus becoming tired of one of his many trips shoes shook the dust of the road and left her marks as ready eyes are still visible on a rock.
One of these days we are walking around the four posts, I don´t know whether desires for martyrdom but if for living adventures and storytelling, as this gentleman will never lose faith in his “strength” and your beloved to which has been to leave to become a man of virtuous soul and pure spirit.

Beware of "muggles" who stop to be photographed with the monument particularly in holiday periods.
