The house was built in 1853 by Judge Asa Holt, but it is better known as the Cannonball House. The name came from the damage it suffered during the Civil War at the Battle of Dunlap Hill just outside of Macon, Georgia. Cannons were aiming for the Hay House that is just two doors up the road. The shot missed the Hay House though, bounced on the Holt's lawn, struck the second column from the left, entered the home over a parlor window, and landed in the hall. Visitors are able to come and pick up the original cannonball and see the dent in the floor where it landed on July 30, 1864. This is the only Macon home that was damaged during the Civil War.
The house is currently home to a Confederate museum, a gift shop, and recreations of the original meeting rooms of the two oldest national collegiate sororities, Alpha Delta Pi and Phi Mu, just as they were at Wesleyan College, the world's first chartered woman's college (1863).
The virtual cache can be attained at any time, but the house and museum are open Monday through Saturday 10 a.m.- 4:30 p.m. Admission fee is required for the tour and museum though (don't have to pay to get the cache).
