Geocache Description:

Chulalongkorn University (commonly abbreviated as "Chula") is the oldest university under the Thai modern educational system, founded in 1917 by King Vajiravudh (Rama VI) who named it after his father, King Chulalongkorn (Rama V). It is one of the best universities in Thailand and Southeast Asia according to several university rankings. It comprises nineteen faculties and institutes.

Its campus occupies a vast area in downtown Bangkok. Diplomas were traditionally handed out at graduation by the King of Thailand, created and begun by King Prajadhipok (Rama VII). But at present, King Bhumibol Adulyadej (Rama IX) delegates the role to one of his daughters, Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn.

Waypoint 1: Map     N 13° 44.352 E 100° 31.815

Take a good look at the map to get to know the university campus. You may want to know what's around you while you are walking around.

How many squares are there in the map grid?
Answer = P

P ÷ 7 = F

 Waypoint 2: Statue     N 13° 44.304 E 100° 31.901

This is a very famous statue of King Rama 5. aka King Chulalongkorn. He was the founder of this university, the first in Thailand.

Look at the man standing on the right. How many medals does he have (in a row) on his left shoulder?

Answer = Q

Q - 5 = A

Waypoint 3: Flagstaff     N 13° 44.303 E 100° 31.926

At the top of this flagstaff you will see the Thai national flag flown proudly. The colours red, white, and blue represent country, religion, and monarchy respectively. Between the road and the bushes you will see some concrete blocks that surround the flagstaff.

How many concrete blocks are there surrounding the flagstaff?
Answer = R

R ÷ 8 = B

Waypoint 4: Snakes     N 13° 44.290 E 100° 32.007

This is the administration building for the faculty of art. You will immediately see that all stairs up to the building are protected by a set of seven-headed snakes. This is thought to protect the building from negative forces. There are actually 2 buildings that are connected in the center, making an H shape.

Walk around the H shaped buildings. How many seven-headed snakes are there?
Answer = S

S ÷ 8 - 5 = C

Waypoint 5: Gears     N 13° 44.211 E 100° 31.942

Scattered throughout the campus you will see artpieces like this one. It isnt too dramatic or thought-provoking, but it fits in well within the engineering faculties.

How many teeth are there on the the smaller gear?
Answer = T

T - 10 = D

Waypoint 6: Circles     N 13° 44.053 E 100° 31.853

These circles on the grass would make anyone dizzy if they stared at them long enough. It adds a bit of colour to the otherwise drab building exteriors. Look for the largest circle. Ignore that it is overlapped slightly by another circle.

Start from the outside. How many concentric pink circles are there? (include the ones that are overlapped slightly)
Answer = U

U ÷ 4 + 1 = E

The final coordinates are

N 13 44.ABC

E 100 31.DEF

We hope you enjoyed your tour around Chulalongkorn University.

Happy Caching!!
