Geocache Description:

My 9th "Unknown Cache" hide, with a Beatles tribute... hence the title. Number 9, number 9, number 9, number 9, number 9, number 9, number 9, number 9, number 9, number 9, number 9, number 9...

Music is a big part of my life. I love listening to a wide variety of music, and I also enjoy creating music. Over the years, I've been in a few bands. Each band had its own unique blend of influences. Oh, there was the alternative punk band in high school, the hard rock band in college, the self-indulgent studio "band" after college, and the current attempt at starting a cover band.

Like many musicians, I cite The Beatles as an influence. However, their influence on me was more from a production standpoint. My favorite part of listening to a Beatles album is to hear the numerous layers of audio on each track. Much of the credit for this sound is attributed to George Martin, the Beatles' long-time producer. Martin often layered additional instruments onto a track to create lush arrangements to augment the song. Martin's production never took away from the songwriting, but always added that special something to make the song memorable. Some of Martin's finest work is evident on the Beatles' self-titled album, often referred to as "The White Album." The horns in "Ob-La-Di Ob-La-Da," the arrangement of instruments in "Dear Prudence," and the bizarre effects in "Revolution 9" are some interesting examples of Martin's work.

The link below will allow you to hear one of my own songs. This song is not so much influenced by the Beatles stylistically, but more by the "studio magic" the Beatles became known for, particularly on "The White Album." This track features several layers of guitar, nontraditional instruments (berimbau and jaw harp), ambient sound effects, and a wide array of recording/production techniques.

Echo of a Past Life

Congrats to Hobo., aka the 5th Beatle, for FTF!
