‘The shortest swing bridge in the world’ is a single-lane bridge used for pedestrians, snowmobiles and autos. A manual pinion on a rack operated the original bridge built in 1902. Today, the rebuilt bridge (almost a replica) is operated by hydraulics and still uses a rack and pinion gear system. If boaters cannot squeeze under the four foot clearance they can have the bridge opened by sounding their horn three times, and waiting. Passage for boaters is one way at a time.
