Geocache Description:


John H. Lyons served as a Private in the 1st Tennessee Cavalry Regiment, Company E, Confederate States of America.

This regiment was organized August 8, 1861 at Knoxville, with men from Union and Knox Counties. Captains John Robertson, E. Hurst, John I. Jarnagin, D. C. Smart. It used the 3rd Tennessee Cavalry Battalion as its nucleus. This company was active in the Vicksburg Campaign and was captured July, 1863. By exchange, it was attached to Waul's Texas Legion, then returned to the regiment. It surrendered with the Army of Tennessee.
