John Playford published a new book called The English Dancing Master in London in 1651. This volume contained the figures and the tunes for 105 English country dances, the first printing of these group social dances that were to dominate Western ballrooms for the next 150 years.
The series eventually grew to eighteen editions of the first volume , four of a second, and two of a third and long out-lived its originator. The three volumes eventually encompassed 1,053 unique dances and their music.
Many of these dances are still danced today troughout the world.
John Playford utgav en ny bok som heter "The English Dancing Master" i London i 1651. Denne boken inneholdt dansebeskrivelser og noter til 105 engelsk country danser. Dette var den første trykte publikasjon av disse sosiale dansene, som skulle dominere vestlige ballsaler de neste 150 år.
Serien ble veldig populær, og vokste etterhvert til 18 utgaver av første bind, 4 av andre, og 2 av en tredje. De tre bindene omfattet til slutt 1053 unike danser med musikken.
