Welcome to Warwick Pond Nature Reserve!

Located along Middle Road Warwick Parish of Bermuda, Warwick Pond is a 9 acre inland woodland reserve and marsh. It has a large open pond with walking and hiking trails within wooded paths that offer great opportunities to see a variety of residential and migratory birds. Warwick Pond serves not only as refuge for bird life but also displays a variety of indigenous and exotic plant life.  This property is owned and managed by the Bermuda National Trust. On December 19, 2009 the property was renamed as the Sherwin Nature Reserve in memory of Dennis Sherwin, president of the Bermuda National Trust from 1987 to 1990.

The pond is the second largest fresh water pond in Bermuda following Spittal Pond. There is an observation point over the pond. Along the wooded path and upland slope visitors will be able to see Bermuda Cedar trees Juniperus bermudiana, clumps of Bermuda Sedge Carex bermudiana, a rare woodland grass, dense stands of Allspice trees Pimenta dioica and Bermuda Palmettos Sabal bermudana.  Along the edge of the pond you’ll be able to see Red-eared slider terrapins Trachemys scripta elegans, mosquito fish Gambusia affinis, dominant Umbrella Sedge Cyperus involucratus, Wood grass Oplismenus setarius, Cow Cane Arundo donax and dense mats of low growing Sheath Paspalum Paspalum vaginatum. Varieties of migratory birds include Barn swallows Hirundo rustica, Warbles, Grey Catbirds Dumetella carolinensis and several types of distinct herons. Many species of waterfowl use Warwick Pond as a rest stop, breeding and feeding ground. This is an important habitat and refuge for Bermuda’s wildlife.
