Star Valley Cheese Factory Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

madambutterfly1822: So sad to archive this cache. It marked one of Star Valley's iconic locations and a place I loved as a customer from a child to when it was dismantled. This is done in the hope someone else who lives in Star Valley and can maintain it will take over that location and make a new cache, which will include photos of and information about the Thayne Swiss Cheese Factory.

Geocache Description:

small traditional cache with swag, cache is across from point of interest, close to busy highway so keep an eye on children. Safe parking in real estate parking lot. Park here and cache is just a short walk away. You will not need to cross the highway. As in all caches hidden in rocks, BEWARE of Snakes and Spiders!!!!

NOTE: Would REALLY like to keep this cache active but I see the log has been ruined. If the next finder could put in a scrap of paper, I'll see if i can replace the log asap. Thank you! Across the street from the cache and coordinates is what is left of the once famous Star Valley Cheese Factory and Restaurant. The Star Valley Swiss Cheese Company at Thayne opened for business January 1, 1949 with Ernest Brog as manager. Since then, the Star Valley Cheese Factory in Thayne became a MUST STOP for anyone passing by. Their excellent swiss cheese was the premier product, but there was also yummy cheddar, mozarella, and caraway, not to mention those chewy curds. The restaurant up front served pretty good burgers, too. CHEESE burgers, of course. Sadly, good things do not last forever. With the decline in the dairy industry, the dear old cheese factory met its demise and is currently being dismantled. But the fond memories of pulling in there and grabbing cheese and Wheat Thins and an ice cream cone made from the best cream you can imagine will last long after the building vanishes. Thank you for all the years you served the communities and tourists, dear factory. You will never be forgotten. Be sure to view the images.
