35mm LHS large gateway off the Mamhead road
Built by the Teignmouth and Dawlish Turnpike Trust in 1839 on the Starcross to Mamhead road at the junction with Batts lane. This road was constructed in the mid 19th century.(There had been a track from Starcross to Exeter possibly along Batts Lane to avoid the marshy riverside) Now this is a smart domestic dwelling still with the original porch. The exterior is stone with raised pointing and corner stones emphasied and a rear extension. As the road (which has flooded in the past)passes very close to the Toll House please don`t do after dark The fields on both sides of the lane have horses in them and are visited daily. Please don't obstruct their access.
