Geocache Description:

This is part of my Inspired by Nature series that will be placed in and around Port Townsend. As with all things in nature, these caches can be quite delicate so please take caution when handling them and replacing them-they will be grateful. This might be a fun series for families.

Log only. BYOP.

Walking the Larry Scott Trail gives us so many beautiful vistas and this spot is another one. If it is hot out this is a great spot to duck in for some shade. Enjoy the view.

Parking is available at the Port or off Mill Road at the trail head

About Me:
Scientific Name: Family Formicidae
Ants are most closely related to bees and wasps, which all have a narrow waist that segments their body. The body is separated into three parts—the head, thorax, and gaster (the part of the abdomen behind the waist). There are over 12,000 species, most of which are black, brown, or red in color.

Ants are found almost everywhere on the planet. The only areas that don’t boast populations of ants are Antarctica, Greenland, Iceland, and some island nations.

Ants use their keen senses to communicate with colony members. They produce chemicals called pheromones which are sensed by other ants using their antennae. They can also use their antennae or other body parts to send messages through touch.

Every Spring we encounter an invasion of these guys in our home where they are not wanted. We have found a really good way of eliminating these unwanted house guests without the use of pesticides. If you would like the recipe just send me a request.

ANOTHER FTF for the ol' Pirate! You sure do have a way of hunting out booty!
