Lt: 1882-1915 m. aplink Kauno miestą buvo pastatyta fortinė tvirtovė. Pirmasis tvirtovės žiedas susidėjo iš I-VIII fortų, tuo tarpu IX fortas yra vienintelis pabaigtas antrojo tvirtovės žiedo fortifikacinis objektas, statytas ~1903-1911 m. Netaisyklingo penkiakampio formos plano gynybinių statinių kompleksas yra pats moderniausias iš visų tvirtovės fortų, nes jo statybai naudotas betonas, jo apšvietimui naudota vietinės elektrinės gaminama elektra, buvo įrengta vėdinimo sistema. Forte pastatytos 2-jų aukštų kazematuotos kareivinės, kuriose be patalpų įgulai suplanuotos įvairios buitinės patalpos (virtuvė, produktų sandėliai, sanitariniai įrengimai ir kt.). Dešiniajame kareivinių sparne yra dviaukštis puskaponierius, greta įrengtas šaudmenų sandėlis ir šaulių galerija. Plytinis kareivinių fasadas yra banguoto profilio su langais ir šaudymo angomis. Ant kareivinių pylimo įrengti du šarvuoti stebėjimo bokšteliai. Fortas apsuptas griovio su kontreskarpine siena, kurioje įrengti 3 kofrai ir galerijos. Kofrus ir kareivines jungia centrinė ir kairioji poternos. Forto pylimų aukštis – 6,9 m. Statinių kompleksui dar priklausė pabūklų slėptuvės, šaudmenų ir ginklų sandėliai. Senasis kelias į fortą buvo grįstas akmenimis ir pridengtas greitai augančiomis tuopomis, o pastatai užmaskuoti žemėmis ir velėna. Kaip gynybinis įrenginys Pirmojo pasaulinio karo metais beveik nenaudotas. Forte iki šiol išlikę nemažai autentiškų elementų.

En: During the time period of 1882-1915, the City of Kaunas was surrounded by a fortress. The first circle of the fortress was comprised of I-VIII forts. The Ninth Fort was the only fully constructed stronghold of the second circle of the fortress. Its construction lasted from ~1903 to 1911. A complex of defensive structures was constructed in the form of an irregular pentagon and was the most modern among all the forts because it was built from concrete, the lighting system used the electric power generated by a local power plant and the fort was equipped with a ventilation system. The fort had two-storey fortified barracks (casemate). Apart from the garrison premises, the area also included various other household facilities, such as kitchen, product stockroom, sanitary facilities, etc. The right wing of the barracks was equipped with a two-storey half-caponier and the ammunition storehouse and shooting range were constructed nearby. The brick facade of the barracks had a wavy profile with windows and embrasures. Two armored observation towers were built on the mound of the barracks. The fort was encircled by a moat with a counterscarp wall which was equipped with three coffers (kofrai) and a gallery. The coffers and the barracks were connected by the central and left posterns. The height of the fort banks was 6.9 m. The building complex also had gunnery hideouts, and ammunition and gun storehouses. The old road to the fort was paved with stones and covered by quickly growing poplars. The buildings were concealed using soil and turf. The fort was hardly ever used as a defensive structure during the First World War. Many authentic elements have been preserved at the fort up to this day.
