Skye- This was the only DOG, a Siberian Husky with Skye blue eyes, pet in our huge pet menagerie.  Sadly, we had to put Skye down in December 2012.  But she lived 13 amazing years.  And left us with many amusing antics of her  very funny behavior.
  • She learned to pull a sled with Brewman in it while visiting friends in Vermont
  • She learned to find food within a 10 mile radius, whether it was her's or not
  • She was a great amusement park rid for our first cat, Lucky, as a kitten.  Brewman would make Skye sit and wait while he put her food down and Lucky would jump onto her massive tail and try to hold on as Skye wagged her tail vigorously in anticipation of her food.
  • She became best friends with our second cat, Lucifer.  Lucifer would sleep on, clean and play with Skye.  When Skye passed away Lucifer walked around the house crying, looking for his buddy.
  • She only shed 2 times a year, for 6 months at a time!
Siberian Huskies are WONDERFUL pets but beware - they have a lot of traits that can drive you crazy:

-If you look at all the positive points of their temperaments you are left without any doubt that this is an amazing breed.  They are intelligent and independent.  They are affectionate with everyone but do not need to constantly pester you for attention.   They are not known to be aggressive and generally do well in multi-dog homes.  They do well with children and will welcome everyone into their homes - INCLUDING INTRUDERS!

-HOWEVER, they often use that remarkable mind to learn less savory things and are not overly eager to please their people.  They are extremely difficult to train, so first time dog owners or timid people should consider other breeds.  Huskies fit best with confident, experienced dog owners who set rules and deliver consistency.  Like all breeds, Huskies need obedience training, but they seem to have an uncanny ability to distinguish the difference between home and class--behaving beautifully in class while disregarding commands at home.

Huskies are great dogs, but beware- they use their sweet nature and intelligence to suit their own purposes!
