Geocache Description:

This is a nice easy multi cache, that takes you to the All Saints church of Hampreston & Stapehill, in the lovely Dorset village of Hampreston, in the civil parish of Ferndown, and 3.5 miles from Wimborne minster.

The church of All Saints is of Early English construction buttressed on two sides with later additions. It has many stained glass windows. The interior has a chancel and vestry in the South aisle, and a nave and tower with five bells, the chancel is uniform shape with a Perpendicular East window, stone corbels support the open timber roof. The Tower and Nave were built in the early 1400s. The Choir was then completed in the late 19th century as was the North Nave Aisle. The Church was then completed by the addition of the Porch in the 20th century. In 1738, 3 bells were recorded (present 2,3 and 5. Then, in 1800, Thomas Mears added the present 4th and then in 1923, the Tenor was cast followed by the treble which completes the ring. The Tenor alone weighs half a ton (508 kg).

Originally the congregation at Stapehill had their own church to gather at, but in August 2005 a HGV lorry whose driver had fallen asleep at the wheel crashed through the Canford Bottom roundabout, and through three private gardens, before embedding itself in the church, which sadly due to safety fears had to be demolished. It was subsequently decided to merge the two congregations at Hampreston, and planning permission for flats to be built at Stapehill were submitted.

It is also the church that we were happily married in on the 22nd June 1996.

The above co-ordinates take you to the porch of the church, and to find the cache all the information you require can be found in and around the church grounds, there is no need to look at any gravestones. After doing some simple sums, the cache itself is a short walk away but due to the paths being mainly of grass, wheelchair users, will require assistance with this cache and with the final retrieval of the cache.

You need to find the following information.

The year Mrs Winifred Williams gave these as a 'Thank-Offering' = 19AB

In loving memory of Lilian G Hutton 19CD - 1996

In loving memory of Geoff Powell 19EF - 1986.
