4harrisons: Archived as I've not had time to take a look at the site and it sounds pretty mangled.

Geocache Description:

Another cache about Greasby history. This one on the site of the old road to Saughall Massie.

Greasby History

The earliest map of Greasby to show the roads running to and from the village is dated to the late 18th century, with paths to West Kirby, Irby, Meols, Saughall Massie, and Woodside.

Map of 1849

The roads to West Kirby via Frankby, Irby (Mill Lane), Meols (Pump Lane), and Woodside (Arrowe Road) are all roughly still there in give or take the same place they were then - although they're all now dwarfed by the modern main road, Greasby Road and Frankby Road (the B5139), which was built in stages between 1854 and 1937. The road to Saughall Massie though has all but disappeared.

All that's left is a public footpath leading from the centre of Greasby village through the modern housing estate and out into the fields by Saughall Massie. Walking through the modern houses gives you no impression that you're walking along a path that dates back over 250 years - and probably more - although looking at the modern Ordnance Survey map you can see how the path from Greasby to Saughall Massie is still there (it's the red dashed line between Greasby and the B5192).

The cache you're looking for is a micro - please bring your own pencil, and gloves (or other protective gear!) and tweezers may be helpful.

Most of the information in this listing is taken from
http://www.greasby.btck.co.uk/Lanesroads which is a great site for Greasby history and well worth reading. Thanks to Mike the site owner for permission to link to his site and repeat some of the information here.

Congrats to ianburford, Glynis Purland, and jay ray on first to find.
This cache has now been moved. It's still along the same path, which is still a very suburban area, but is now in a less overlooked spot. Note that it is in the hedge on the right hand side as you walk towards Greasby village. These extra directions are given to help keep your search short in this busy and residential spot. The cache you're looking for is a small camo-covered container about 40mm long attached to the hedge about 30cm off the ground on the right hand side as you walk towards Greasby village. Watch out for thorns!
