The Hatton of Fintray war memorial sits on it's own little island and every time I drive past I enjoy seeing it.
The mound it sits on, known as Donald's Hillock, is probably a prehistoric barrow or cairn, Bronze Age in date. Prior to the construction of the retaining wall after the First World war, the mound probably measured about 25m in diameter and 3m in height; it is depicted on the 1st edition of the OS 6-inch map (Aberdeenshire 1869) sheet.
I have placed a small cache nearby so that others can come and see this lovely wee spot.
