Geocache Description:

Exploring a longwayround Nagahama Dam, you might spy the rare Okinawan giant salamander, or you might climb this interesting hill. If you don't like being near tombs, this isn't for you. Also this isn't safe for kids, so let them play in the park. The trail is single-file narrow, slippery when wet, and a steep drop. Don't rely on the ropes. Please be respectful. FTF GeoAward awaits its owner. Gambaru! Congrats to Gymkat for the FTF

Seeing the Nagahama Dam area begins with the river. If you're really lucky like I was, you might catch a glimpse of the endangered Okinawan giant salamander. [see ref point] At 4-5 ft. long it is a rare sight, and the largest amphibian in the world.

Many species of waterfowl and turtles live around the dam and in the river. You will especially see them on a sunny day. Or you might see fishermen practicing catch and release -- most of the many fish you see are not good to eat. KIds catch large shrimp near the bridge. Large white eels and kingfisher birds are visible especially at night in the river. You may also see BBQs, picnics and frisbee, kite-flying or baseball in the park. Climb the stairs to the dam to see a beautiful view of the valley and the East China Sea.

This cache is not safe for kids; it's best to leave them in the park while you grab the cache. The trail is single-file narrow, steep, and slippery, especially if there has been rain. Ropes line the trail but don't rely on them. Enjoy the view but keep a close watch at all times.

The cache is not in a tomb. The tombs hidden in the hillside are of varying ages. A couple of them appear to be still active. If you are so inclined, leave a yen and a prayer. Be especially careful and respectful if you continue to the end of the trail. Congrats to GYMKAT for the FTF!

EnjoY the longwayround!
