Dial 'G' for Geocache Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

Dalesman: This cache has been in need of care and maintenance for some time and as the owner has not responded to my note I am archiving it.

Guidelines:**You are responsible for occasional visits to your cache to maintain proper working order, especially when someone reports a problem with the cache (missing, damaged, wet, etc.). You may temporarily disable your cache to let others know not to search for it until you have a chance to fix the problem. This feature is to allow you a reasonable amount of time - normally a few weeks - in which to check on your cache. If a cache is not being maintained, or has been temporarily disabled for an unreasonable length of time, we may archive the listing.**

Geocache Description:

A traditional cache located near the former home of a local mining engineer in Horbury.

Please note the cache contains a logbook only so bring your own pen. The area is also quite exposed and can be busy through the day, so stealth is required.

Please take care when replacing the cache.

***FTF HORBURY HOARD HUNTERS***

The cache is in honour of Richard Sutcliffe (January 26, 1849 – July 23, 1930), an Irish born mining engineer and inventor that lived locally.

In 1905 he invented the world's first underground conveyor belt. This invention revolutionized the mining industry by greatly reducing the amount of labour and time needed to transport coal, thereby reducing the cost per ton of coal extraction.

His former home can be found just up the road from the cache site, denoted by a blue plaque.
