Auroras Encore is an Irish-bred, British-trained Thoroughbred racehorse best known for winning the 2013 Grand National at odds of 66/1. In a six year racing career he has won two hurdle races and six steeplechases from forty-four starts.
His racing career began in early 2007 when he finished second in National Hunt flat races at both Market Rasen and Sedgefield. In the 2007/2008 National Hunt season he ran ten times, gaining his maiden victory in December in a Novice Hurdle at Sedgefield.His first major victory was in April 2008 in a handicap hurdle at the Grand National meeting at Aintree Racecourse. The following season he won a novi4ce steeplechases at Sedgefield in December, at Carlisle in March and again at Ayr in April. In 2012 he won a handicap chase at Haydock Park in April and then finished second to Merigo in the Scottish Grand National.
On April 6th 2013, Auroras Encore took part in the Grand National at Aintree. After finishing no better than fourth in his first five races of the 2012/2013 season he had starting odds of 66/1. His jockey Ryan Mania, was having his first ride in the race and they went on to win by nine lengths.
On 20 April Aurora's Encore attempted to become the first horse since Red Rum to win the Grand National and the Scottish Grand National in the same season, but it was not to be and he was pulled up on the final circuit.
