Geocache Description:

Mud Lake. Sounds picturesque, doesn't it? When the Welland Canal was being built (1911-1932), they needed a place for the excavated soil, and thereby created a "mud lake". In 1994, Ducks Unlimited and the Niagara Peninsula Conservation Authority took steps to install a fresh water pumping system and create a wetland preserve. Parking is on Elm St. at N42 55 773, W79 15 300. You can either go left or right at the entrance since the cache is almost directly on the other side of the lake. Stay on the "blue" trail. The cache is within view of the unused portion of the canal which has become a rowing club and the Welland Canal Parkway, a paved trail for joggers, roller-bladers and cyclers.
