Near a remnant of the original ridge route. Slightly camo'ed peanut butter jar.
This short stretch of concrete road is a remnant of the original ridge route, which connected the Los Angeles area and the Great Central Valley, in 1915. It was abandoned in 1933, when US Hwy 99 was built farther west. Most of Hwy 99 in this area is under the present I-5, but remnants of it remain as well. Peace Valley Rd i and "The Old Road" in the Santa Clarita area are two examples. Just past Quail Lake, one can get off SR 138 and go onto a good section of the old ridge route, until it is closed at the old Tumble Inn site. There are numerous caches along this road. The concrete parts still visible are remnants of the original road. Google "ridge route" or "historic US-99" for interesting sites.
