Geocache Description:

A lovely War Memorial in a scenic location.

In memory of those from the Birse area that lost their lives in the Great War. Dedicated on 4th December 1921 and re-dedicated on 27th October 1946 when 8 new names were added to the 26 killed in WW1.

They went with songs to the battle, they were young.
Straight of limb, true of eyes, steady and aglow.
They were staunch to the end against odds uncounted,
They fell with their faces to the foe.

They shall not grow old, as we that are left grow old:
Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.
At the going down of the sun and in the morning,
We will remember them.

Too nice a location not to have a cache. This cache replaces one previously in this vicinity. Text taken from the original cache page.

It would be nice to hope that no more names would need to be added.
