Chetco Point is one of Brookings' hidden little treasures, and one of my favorite spots. It's a great setting for a picnic and whale watching. The wave action is breath-taking if you come a day after a big storm. This is my second cache, and I'm looking forward to sharing with you. Plenty of swag, a travel bug, as well as 1st, 2nd, and 3rd to find tokens await you.

About half of the trail is paved and wheelchair accessible. Shortly past the trailhead is a wonderful grassy area with picnic tables. It overlooks a small bay. At the end of the paved portion is another table overlooking the ocean. It's a great thinking spot.
Continue down the footpath until you get to the warning sign. The left fork will take you to a secluded little beach. Nice pools invite you to explore at low tide. Plenty of sand to take a nap on. You will want to take the right fork. There are drop offs, so keep the little guys on a short leash. When you arrive at Ground Zero, take a few minutes to look around. This is why I brought you up here.
At Ground Zero you will find a Geological Marker. This marker is made of brass, about for inches in diameter, and stamped "Chetco Point". Make a note of the year stamped into the marker. Here's where your math skills come in handy.
Take the last three numbers of the year and Subtract 113. The total will replace the last three numbers of your current North Coordinate.
Next, take the first three numbers of the year and ADD 113. This number will replace the last three numbers of your current West Coordinate.
Plug in the new numbers as a new waypoint for the final stage of your cache hunt. If your rocket science calculations are correct, you will be just a tad short of 3/10 mile away. You may need to activate your cloaking device.
