Geocache Description:

This cache leads to the start of what's called Dooby Lane or Guru Road near Gerlach, Nevada - entry way to the Black Desert and the Burning Man festival. Enjoy a mile of DeWayne "Dooby" Williams wit, wisdom and art that will cause you to chuckle and maybe think a little too.

DeWayne "Dooby" Williams (1918 - 1995), the Guru of Gerlach, created Dooby lane in the 15 years before his death.  The lane contains about a mile long stretch of art and stone monuments containing a wide variety of clever says that are sometimes political, philosophical or religious.  Along the way are tributes to Elvis and Aphrodite, the “Desert Broadcasting System” , the Equalizer, the Gateway to Life Eternal and ground zero.

Some of the aphorisms you might see along the way are:

  • TV is not free, it costs you your time
  • Attention all preachers have your fire proof suit handy at all times
  • Remember the exhaust is important as the intake
  • The devil is an angel next to Saddam Hussein
  • Step up and see the image of God
  • Its a hazard to be born poor
  • Perhaps his own epitaph- Life is a hundred year trip away from home. When you die, your spirit will be singing, "Home at last, home at last, thank God I'm home at last. Wow. What a trip.

The first stone on your journey says “Remember no matter what you think of this road remember the price is right”. When you look at pictures of some of the art from years ago its obvious that it's getting a little ragged, but it's still worth a look.  Drive (the road can be a little rough at times, but most cars should be able to make it) or walk and enjoy a mile of entertaining art and verse.
