Oak Street in Jackson is the site of two jails. The red brick building adjacent to the city parking lot on the west side of Oak Street was built in 1890 for $4696.85. Directly across the street on the east side of Oak Street is the jail constructed in 1937 for $25,056; this jail was in use until the mid-90s. Each of these jails included a sheriff’s residence.
Both of the jails are visible from the cache site. You will be able to see the back and side of the 1890 jail from the cache site. The 1937 jail is now a feed store. The cache includes a log and may be able to handle small trade items. Parking is abundant. BYOP. Permission has been granted to place this cache.
