Geocache Description:

We’re sure everyone, at one time or another, wanted to be a “Pirate”. Since we live in a land locked province, our only chance to be a real salty pirate is on one of our various waterways. Fortunately, a musical group called “The Arrogant Worms” wrote a song describing the transformation of a hard working farmer and his friends into a band of grain thirsty buccaneers who sailed the Saskatchewan River. The song is called “The Last Saskatchewan Pirate” and a youtube clip can be found at htpps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kHAl1tWvvPA Since Medicine Hat is on the South part of the mighty Saskatchewan, it is appropriate that we honour these brave, albeit misguided, individuals by holding a flash mob in their honour. Now what would you think a Saskatchewan River Pirate (formerly a farmer) actually looks like? Well, you decide and at precisely 12 noon on Saturday August 17th, 2013, we will assemble at the entrance to the Medicine Hat Farmer’s Market. We think this location is appropriate since there are a lot of farmers displaying (and selling) their wares. This might give them an idea of a future occupation should things go bad in the agriculture industry so we want you to give them a good impression of what a pirate really is. We expect to see a lot of piratey things happening (sword fighting, plank walking etc.) and hear a lot of Aaarghs, Avast Mateys, and other salty terms as the verses to the aforementioned song are played. All should join in for the singing of the chorus, which goes like this: And it’s a heave ho, hi ho, coming cross the plains, Stealing wheat and barley and the other grains It’s a hi ho hay ho farmers bar your doors, when you see the Jolly Roger on Regina’s mighty shores. Bring a card with your geocaching (and pirate) name to drop into the booty bag to record your presence. (All who attend are eligible for prizes, so each member of a team should drop a card. These will be drawn for at the CARMH4 event later that evening) Once the song is finished we will gather as a group behind the SEARCH Banner for a group photo, then we will disburse to carry on caching. Remember the fun we had at last year’s fishin’ hole Flash Mob? Let’s have that fun again. A review of the activity will happen at the Welcome to Medicine Hat event on Friday the 16th at the MHIC at Police Point Park. Aargh!
