Situated on a recently opened section of the Te Awa River Ride, the site of the cache affords spectacular views over Lake Karapiro. Go on sunny day and you might be forgiven for forgetting your simple search mission.
Walking, running or cycling, try to give yourself time to explore the trail further, as it now follows the banks of the river as it creeps towards the start line of the rowing course. Don’t be deterred by the short steep gully near the cache. The lake-side boardwalk, just past the Water Skiing Club, is well worth the exercise.
The New Zealand Cycle Trail, Nga Haerenga, has now added the sections from Leamington to the start of the rowing course to their official network ride.
There is parking on the roadside and in the Karapiro Domain. If there is an event in progress, it can be busy but this only adds to the excitement of the Karapiro experience.
