Geocache Description:

I wanted to make an easily accessible regular cache for when you (or I) need to drop off a trackable but don't want to hike very far. This is very close to parking and accessible year-round.

Welcome to the Heritage Farm Museum, part of the Byron Forest Preserve. While you're grabbing this cache, check out the barns, the farm equipment, and the house itself, which is a reproduction of the 1800's farmhouse. Buildings are open from April-October; cache is available all seasons.

Hopefully you visit when you can gawk at the creepy mannequins and gaze into the lifeless eyes of the huge work horse. Don't forget to pet the kittens! Rumor has is that Mr. Wilbur, Sr. took a bad fall while repairing the roof of the carriage barn when--and here stories differ--either a flock of barn swallows or a troop of bats got a bit too close. To that end, he trained his cats to climb the windmill and the slats of the corn crib, where they didn't successfully get rid of either animal but did appreciate the view. According to our first director, it was the great-great-great, etc. grandkitties of these cats that gave him the idea of creating a golf course next door. Sand trap...need I say more?

Ya...I made all of that up.

Congrats to VVV1 for the FTF!
