A nice little cache that encourages the seeker to drive & hike into an area that has wonderful views of the Willamette Valley and Cascade Mountains.
The Cascade View Estates are a subdivision developed outside the city boundary of Corvallis during the early 1990's, consisting of 45 lots of an acre or more in size.
While drilling wells is allowed, the bulk of residents get their water from the Cascade View County Service District that is managed by Benton County Public Works. The development of a formal plan for including subdivisions into a larger water use area was not a routine occurrance and the county used this housing area as a pilot to understand how rezoning and development can affect larger parcels of land and water usage specifically.
Additional time was needed at the outset but the long-term impact and understanding is greatly improved, allowing the model to be used repeatedly in other areas for better understanding of residential vs. agricultural or open land water needs.
But enough about the area, you're here to learn about the cache! The end of the road (literally) will be at the main holding tank for Cascade View Estates. The view from the GZ isn't what it was 20 years ago, but the walk up should give you some camera-worthy views.
There are a number of spots that might host a cache in the immediate area, but which one to go for? It is a pill bottle wrapped in camo tape, so it's able to fit into lots of good little nooks and crannies and will avoid the eye of 99% of muggles. The fencing, gravel piles, stacked timber and cinder blocks all look tempting...
Please park at the waypoints included in the cache listing and do NOT approach by car, as the gravel road through the area is restricted to service & emergency vehicles only. I do not want to risk the safety of the residents or increase the impact to the ecosystem, so if you're driving on gravel, please stop and back up until you hit pavement again.
Congrats to Hengistbury for FTF!!
