A fairly level walk to a prominent viewpoint.
Park next to the Pennine Way signpost and follow the clear path.
After 3/4 mile or so cross the wire fence just where the barb wire
ends and cross the heather to the monument. There is a path across
the heather which is much clearer on the way back, but the going is
ok even if you don't find it. This stone structure is a monument to
Alexander Padon, although the inscription is now illegible. At
1,240 ft this is the highest point on the Pennine Way between Cross
Fell and the Cheviots.
