Geocache Description:

A two mile mile trek each way along the Florida Gulf of Mexico shoreline. Be prepared to walk through a lot of sand, some of it deep. You can take the inland trail to the cache and then walk along the beach on the way back.

The parking area near N27 03.430 W82 26.589, where this hike used to begin, is inaccessible. Best parking is at South Brohard Park to the north, since the entire length of Harbor Drive S is mostly gone. This adds another 2 miles, coming and going, to the hike.

** 4/19/2025 UPDATE ** REPLACEMENT CACHE #6 **

The hurricanes of 2024 really pushed the reset button on the beaches here, and sent this cache into orbit. So it's been replaced once more, and my thanks to everyone for the patience and apologies to the all the folks who missed it.

As I have previously, I put together an album on Facebook marked 'Public', so everyone could get pics for reference and details on how things have changed and where the cache is placed. Happy trails!

** 2/11/2023 UPDATE ** REPLACEMENT CACHE #5 **

After seeing reports that the replacement cache put here over four years ago needed another refresh, I finally got down there with my crew and there's now a brand-new stash waiting for you. $:-)

I have put some pics on my Facebook page to help y'all out. I hope I got the FB sharing setups right...

** 11/4/2018 UPDATE ** REPLACEMENT CACHE #4 **

My son and I replaced this cache for the fourth time since I placed it along the beach here over 16 years ago. Hard to believe! That '4-year old boy' is now a 20-year-old young man. This place has changed much. But the coordinates are the same.

I have put some pics on my Facebook page to make locating this cache easier for you.

Casperson's Beach Cache #4

====================================================================

THE ORIGINAL CACHE DESCRIPTION, FOR POSTERITY.

23 years now as of 4/19/25. Pretty wild...

====================================================================

Since there aren't any caches in this area that take people down to our beautiful shoreline, I figured Casperson's Beach would be perfect. You will most definitely get to enjoy a bucolic beach stroll in order to get to this cache, as well as see what Florida looks like as soon as you go just a wee bit inland.

I'd suggest taking the "inland" route first to get to the cache, and then, on the return journey, take off your shoes and walk back while cooling your feet in the surf. From the parking lot, go towards the Gulf and then follow the old paved road until it falls apart and turns into a couple of dirt trails. The whole trek heads almost due South along a narrow strip of land that will put the Gulf of Mexico on your right and the Intracoastal Waterway on your left, so it's impossible to go astray even if your GPS runs out of power! The site is 1.4 miles as the crow flies from the parking coords above, and about 1.7 miles actual walking distance.

You will undoubtedly see various Florida shoreline fauna on your trek. I saw Red Cardinals, a black racer, got buzzed by a formation of Pelicans, a raccoon, and saw many, many gopher tortoises. In fact, I marked two burrows at N27 03.001 W82 26.261 and N27 02.396 W82 25.848, as well as a cool spot along the Intracoastal with lots of marine birds and fiddler crabs at N27 02.700 W82 26.087.

Especially with the summer months approaching, you definitely want to bring a good sun-hat, sunscreen, and plenty of water. For the same reason, I'd suggest getting out in the morning, when the day is coolest and the beach crowds are minimal. Shoes are a must to avoid grass cuts and sandspurs. Also, please be advised that, if you walk along the beach, you may encounter a few nude sunbathers, so if that bothers you, do what I do. Don't look. $;-)

This cache is mostly stuff that my 4-year old boy donated. I was tempted to call this cache the "Casperson's Kids Cache":

  • small American flag
  • (2) U.S. Constitution booklets
  • (2) "Know Your Bill of Rights" comic books.
  • toy figurine: "Scar" from "The Lion King"
  • toy figurine: "Mike" from "Monsters, Inc."
  • beanbag turtle
  • Hot Wheel car
  • "Hello Kitty" keychain
  • Snoopy keychain
  • glow-in-the-dark "alien flasher" keychain

ENJOY!
