Geocache Description:

The caches for the CARL5 event are relased early so that the geocaching community has an opportunity to plan their routes prior to the event start..  The cache should not be located prior to 6 p.m. June 7.  Dont avoid this cache just because rattlesnakes give you the creeps.  Near the cache is a huge dynamic sculpture of a rattlesnake.  Kids will have fun making it rattle and walking over a series of large stepping stones arranged like a huge snake.

The cache is in a playground area and in an unlikely spot for rattlesnakes because of the likelihood of people and their pets which they try to avoid. It is easy to reach from several nearby parking lots. However, to retrieve it you may have to exercise stealth. Rattlesnakes are native to the prairies. A possible encounter with a poisonous rattlesnake is usually not dangerous. Rattlesnakes are very timid creatures and seldom strike at large moving animals like a person. They will try to escape unless provoked. Rattle snakes are difficult to spot in the wild because of their good camouflage. The prairie rattlesnake shows great variation in colour, from olive green to dark brown, but always with dark blotches along the back. Adult rattlesnakes grow to a length of 3 to 5 feet. They can be distinguished from the Bull Snake by their broad, triangular head and the rattle up to 2 inches long on the end of their tails.
