Three Chimneys Farm is a swim/tennis community located in Cumming, Georgia with nearly 500 homes.
Until the late 1820s, this part of the country was home to the Cherokee Indians. After the discovery of gold in north Georgia, Forsyth County was one of ten new Georgia counties carved out of Cherokee County and was established in 1832. The Darden’s were the first recorded landowners of much of the property in south Forsyth County, including Three Chimneys Farm. William Dossie Buice purchased 410 acres of farmland for $10 per acre about one hundred years later. After his purchase, William Buice selected a large rolling hill to build his farmhouse, featuring a wide, covered porch and three chimneys. The legacy of the large farmhouse on the scenic hill endures in two visible attributes of our community - porches and chimneys.
The three historic chimneys on that picturesque hill are the focal point when you enter the Three Chimneys Farm neighborhood. The names of the streets and cul-de-sacs accent the wooded surroundings and elements of fireplaces and chimneys, which are brought into most homes in the community. Amenities include a Jr Olympic sized pool, tennis courts, playground, and an outdoor basketball court.
This is the 5th installment in my neighborhood series of caches. As far as personal connection, we have many friends in this neighborhood and have participated in their annual “Campout on the Hill" several times.
The cache is not quite a park & grab, but will require a short walk from the parking lot. Please fight the temptation to park on the street closer to Ground Zero; use the parking coordinates provided.
