Fujisawa Castle Ruins
Recently, I placed a cache entitled "Battle of Sannoudou (GC478DZ)". I mentioned a short story on the battle that ended to rout of Oda clan who escaped to a Fujisawa castle at night. I was interested in where the Fujisawa castle was. I would like to place a small geocache which has a logbook, a ballpoint pen and some items in an obscure part of the Fujisawa castle ruins to feel historical science. You do not need to read the following sentences because this is just a traditional cache.

藤沢城址
先日、山王堂の戦い(GC478DZ)のキャッシュを置いた際に、小田氏治は敗走して藤沢城へ逃れたと書きました。その後、藤沢城はどこにあったのか調べてみました。このキャッシュは藤沢城の一角であったであろう場所に設置しました。これはトラディショナルキャッシュですので、以下はまったく読む必要ありません。
| I looked for the whereabouts of the Fujisawa castle. It was constructed at Fujisawa in Tsuchiura city. According to Wikipedia, Oda Ujiharu who was the lord of Oda clan had strong earnestness on the Oda castle. He took the Oda castle back one year after the Battle of Sannoudou because he rebuilt his army during a stay in the Fujisawa castle. Unfortunately he was attacked again in the next year by Uesugi Kenshin and retreated again from the Oda Castle. Afterwards, he was allowed to stay at the Oda Castle on a condition not to repair the castle wall. |
藤沢城はいまの土浦市藤沢にあって、小田城の支城だったようです。小田城は平城で守りに難点があるのに対し、こちらは少し高台になっています。しかし、小田氏治は小田城に強いこだわりを持っていたようです。山王堂の戦いの翌年には形勢を立てなおして小田城をとりかえしています。残念ながら、その翌年にはまた上杉謙信に攻められ小田城から敗走しています。その後、小田城の城壁を修復しないという条件付きで謙信に小田城に戻ることを許されています。 |
| Oda Ujiharu had been popular and took the Oda castle back many times with the cooperation of his retainers and local people. However, his territory was confiscated by Toyotomi Hideyoshi in 1590 and the Oda clan was ruined. Oda Ujiharu moved to Niigata prefecture and died there in 1602. He is called "Phoenix of the Hitachi". |
小田氏治は、領内では人望があり、地元民の協力を得つつ、家臣団に支えられながら何度も小田城を奪い返していました。しかし、最後は豊臣秀吉に所領を没収され、大名としての小田氏は滅亡しました。晩年、小田氏治は越前(新潟県)に移り、そこで最期を迎え、永平寺に葬られたそうです。そして後世、彼は"常陸の不死鳥"と称されています。 |
| I would like to show the site of the Fujisawa castle ruins in Fig. 1 which is published in a reference book 2). I did not know Oda Ujiharu at all. I thought he must be a great person because we can trace his life even though more than 400 years have passed after he died. |
参考文献2)に示されている藤沢城のあったあたりというエリアをFig.1に示します。私は小田氏治という人物をまったく存じなかったのですが、亡くなってから400年以上たってもなおその足跡をたどれる人物というのは偉大だったんだろうなと思いました。 |
Fig. 1 Fujisawa Castle Ruins
I took a walk around Fujisawa castle ruins in early summer. I placed the cache at an entrance of a temple which is located in the Fujisawa castle ruins. Please visit here in the daytime because it is residential area.

初夏の新緑の頃、藤沢城址と思しきあたりを散策してみました。このキャッシュは、藤沢城址のお寺に置きました。まわりは住宅街ですので夜間の探索はお控えください。
