Sefton has 13 allotments throughout the borough, giving many people the chance to grow their own fruit and vegetables, and to be involved in the friendly social side of gardening.
Allotments are being reinvigorated, through media, organic foods and environmental concerns.
The 'Green Gyms' initiative is one response to the growing need and demand for people who don't like gyms and sports centres to work for the community get health as well as meet new and like minded people.
The Green Gym scheme inspires you to improve both your health and the environment at the same time. Experienced leaders guide you through a range of practical projects, giving you the opportunity to tackle physical jobs in the outdoors – improving your strength and stamina, boosting your practical skills and confidence and benefitting your local green spaces. One such scheme operates at Queensway Allotments in Crosby.
