La Bonneterie a longtemps été l’activité principale de Troyes et de son agglomération. De nombreuses usines dressaient leurs cheminées dans le ciel Troyen et si en 1914 il y avait plus de 100 cheminées dans l’agglomération, il n’en reste plus que 19 à ce jour.

Textile manufacturing was the main activity of the city of Troyes for a long time. Many plant’s chimneys stood in the sky of Troyes and even there was more than 100 chimneys in Troyes in the year 1914, only 19 are still remaining today.

Cette cheminée d’usine se trouve dans une entreprise qui exerce toujours la même activité et est dirigée par la même famille depuis plus de 100 ans à cet endroit : la Scierie Huot
Cette société fut fondée en 1840 à Sainte Savine par Gamichon et Huot, ce dernier s’associant avec son fils en 1893 pour fonder Huot et Cie qui deviendra Huot Frères et Cie en 1901.
En 1910, Leon Huot transfère la société à Saint julien les Villas à la place d’une ancienne sucrerie, tout près d’un embranchement ferroviaire qui participera au développement de l’entreprise.
Très lourdement endommagés pendant la seconde guerre mondiale les bâtiments sont reconstruits et l’entreprise poursuit sa croissance en se spécialisant dans la fabrication de parquets.
Vers 2008 des difficultés financières conduiront à 33 licenciements et en 2012 par la reprise de l’entreprise par le groupe Nancéen « Prêt-à-partir » en conservant à la direction de l’usine la petite fille d’un des frères Huot.

This company was founded in 1840 in Sainte Savine by Gamichon and Huot, the latter teaming with his son in 1893 to found Huot et Cie and it will become Huot Brothers and Co. in 1901.
In 1910, Leon Huot transfers the plant in Saint Julian Villas in place of an old sugar refinery, near a railway siding which participate in the development of the company.
Heavily damaged during World War II buildings are rebuilt and the company continues to grow by specializing in the manufacture of flooring.
By 2008 financial difficulties lead to 33 layoffs and the takeover of the company, in 2012 by the Nancy Group "Prêt-à-partir" , keeping the factory management to the granddaughter of one of the Huot brothers.
