Geocache Description:

One of a series of simple, easy to find, caches at railway stations in and around the Manawatu.

Welcome aboard the Government Railways' service to Wanganui! Last stop Taonui, next stop Feilding.

The last of the three sawmill stations along the Taonui straight between Mugby (Bunnythorpe) and Feilding. This mill predated the railway as it also had transport access via the river and was quite close to Feilding. The first mill was roughly at the road bridge over the river. When the railway came it was moved to just to the west of here, enlargened and had a short rail spur supplying it. A metalled road ran from here to Feilding in 1876, but it was just a little mud and dirt track to Bunnythorpe. In 1892 the timber had been worked out and the station and sidings lifted, only to be reinstalled for a freezing works in 1916.

Across the road from the cache now stands a psychiatric care unit. The staff there know about the cache, however the residents do not. Please take care with your stealth. This cache is tiny - no room for trackables, bring your own pen.
