Geocache Description:

Have you ever thought how those soldiers felt hiding countless hours in some machine gun nest and watching the area for the enemy through a small porthole? Welcome to this cache for the experience!

South west from Banzai cliff there is a small beach without a name. Over 60 years ago on this peaceful beach there were Japanese soldiers hiding and waiting to fight. Nobody knows their destiny but the two machine gun nests are still there reminding us that the war was here.

The cache is hidden in the nest by the water where you can take some unforgettable photos of the beautiful coastline. To find the cache, you would need to take that soldier position...

The second nest is some 30 ft inside the bush and it is visible from the first nest location.

If you travel by bike or 4x4 and you are careful, you can go all the way to the beach and park at the grassy area. If you are using sedan for your Saipan geocaching adventures, it is better to park by Cowtown (a farm name) - this area landmark, or a little bit further by the road there will be some open area under a big tree. The road to the beach after the tree is not very good but the walk is really short. From Cowtown to the beach there are about 600 ft.

While going down from Cowtown to the beach, you will see trail going to Banzai cliff. This is a pleasant mountain bike and trekking trail and if you feel like ready for a promenade, you can park at the Banzai cliff and walk your way to the beach using this trail, than return back. There are some caves at the beach side of the trail that keep untouched some artifacts from the war time. If you are interested in exploring the place, ask for a local guide.
