Manawatu rail: Makino Traditional Cache
Please note Use of geocaching.com services is subject to the terms and conditions
in our disclaimer.
One of a series of simple, easy to find, caches at railway stations in and around the Manawatu.
Welcome aboard the Government Railways' service to Wanganui! Last stop Feilding, next stop Maewa.
Makino Station was built in 1878, two years after the line from Palmerston to Feilding was completed, as part of the onward connection to Wanganui. It serviced a little community of 16 Hectare (40 acre) properties, recently hewn out of the thick bush here and, of course, a sawmill. The station was improved over time as the railway brought in more settlers, but it always remained a small shelter shed. It was eventually pulled out in 1960.
Note: Tracks are for trains. You do not need to go anywhere near the rails.
The people in the house overlooking the cache know about it and will be playing Spot the geocacher .

Makino Station, 1941
